My ‘Clean Girl’ Make Up Look

Updated: Oct 20, 2023

The ‘Clean Girl’ trend has been taking the world by storm recently, especially across Tik Tok and Instagram, inspired by celebrities like Zendaya and Bella Hadid. It’s an entire aesthetic, consisting of minimalist make-up, dainty jewellery and neat, slick back hair. The glowy make-up is really key to this look. It’s all about a dewy base, subtle blush and glossy lips. I decided to give it a go, and wanted to share the makeup products I used to achieve it.

The Base

Glossier | Future Dew

Glossier’s Future Dew is perfect for giving your skin a gorgeous glow, that looks healthy and natural. It’s an oil serum hybrid that makes your skin dewy, without being greasy and oily. Applied either directly to the face or mixed in with foundation, it’s quite hydrating and boasts plant-based extracts to make your skin look brighter over time. It’s a brilliant product for no or minimal makeup.

Revolution | Glass Liquid Skin Primer

I really like this primer. It’s an affordable little gem that feels like velvet when applied to the skin and doesn’t sink into my large pores, ruining my base. As both a primer and serum, it’s designed to illuminate the skin by creating subtle radiance, as is the glass skin trend. Though not the most powerful product of this sort, it’s a great little cheapie that performs beautifully.

L’Oreal | Plumping Tinted Serum (5-6 Medium-Tan)

I choose this tinted serum instead of foundation, as it allows my skin to shine through whilst evening out my complexion. I’ve been using this for a while, and I actually prefer tints to foundation, as the latter can often look to heavy for me. Though this product is a little messy to use, it looks like second skin when applied, and it blends effortlessly. It’s a minimal effort product with a lot of impact, perfect for those of you that prefer quick and simple routines.

Collection | Lasting Perfection Hydrating Serum Concealer (Buttermilk)

I’ve been trying a lot of different concealers recently, looking for the perfect one. Though I don’t think this is quite it, it is a really good product nonetheless. Not only is it incredibly cheap, but it sets nicely and doesn’t feel drying on my skin. It has one job, and it does that job pretty well.

The Face

Fenty Beauty | Match Stix (Mocha)

As this is a minimal look, I only did a little contouring down my nose and along my jawline, to give my face a little more definition. Fenty Beauty has a lot of great products, but I adore the Match Stix’s due to their easy application. There’s also something about the creamy formula that just blends so beautifully and is a delight to use, that I can’t help but reach for it constantly.

Mac | Extra Dimension Blush (Cheeky Bits)

This is another product I find that blends really well, and looks like second skin. Gorgeous and highly pigmented, this blush really is a stunner. Not only does it add another subtle glow to the skin but it’s really vibrant, and buildable. It’s definitely one of my favourite blushes to use and I’ve already purchased some of the other colours.

Urban Decay | Afterglow Highlighter (Sin)

This is my go-to highlighter for every day, minimal makeup and as such, I’ve been using it for years. It gives an elegant, subtle and buildable glow, that is easily blendable and works with just about every make up look. Unfortunately, this baby is discontinued, however, any highlighter that gives you sun kissed glow will work for this look.

The Eyes

Revolution | Reloaded Velvet Rose Palette

I used the nude brown shade from this palette, similar to my skintone, just to add some dimension to my eyes. You can completely skip this step, but I just felt it would blend the whole look together. I’ve always liked Revolution palette’s because I find them to be beginner friendly. They are pigmented enough to give you your desired look without too much heavy lifting or fall out, and for someone like me who doesn’t wear eyeshadow a lot, it’s nice to not break the bank on something I won’t use often.

Too Faced | Better Than Sex Mascara

My go-to Mascara since it launched, this bad boy has never let me down. I have fairly thin and short lashes, and this is the only mascara to ever give me the length and look I want. I honestly don’t see myself ever replacing this, unless Too Faced change the formula.

Glossier | Boy Brow & Brow Flick Duo

My beloved brow combo of choice. I don’t shape my brows; I simply comb them upward and fill them in with these two products. I prefer the messy brow look, and considering feathered brows is the go-to for the clean girl look, this works. I’ve been using this combo for a while, and they’re honestly the best products I’ve used for my thin and slightly sparse brows.

The Lips

Mac | Lip Liner (Cork)

A staple in a lot of routines, Mac Cork really is one of the best nude liners for medium to dark skin tones. It’s just a lovely nude you can pair with about any colour, and it has good staying power. Though there are a few dupes for this from companies like Nyx and Nars, I don’t think they are quite as good as the original.

Maybelline | Lifter Gloss (Stone)

I'll admit, I originally purchased this due to the packaging. I just love how aesthetic it is. Applied directly to my lips, it doesn’t really show and I was pretty disappointed. However, when applied over the Cork lip liner, it provides a glossy soft brown look that I adore. I think the two pair brilliantly for a nude look and have some pretty good staying power. Plus, you can just reapply the gloss throughout the day.
