New Additions In My Skincare Routine: Hyperpigmentation + Large Pores + Dehydrated

Updated: Oct 20, 2023

I recently had a bit of skincare cleanout - I know, madness - in an effort to create a streamlined routine. I want to focus on a morning and night routine, where every product truly benefits the needs of my skin. Whether that be nourishment, repair and or daily maintenance. So, items I didn’t see myself ever using, I simply didn’t like or weren’t really a benefit to me were removed and this, left me quite a bit of space in my skincare cupboard. So of course, I had to fill it up again! Here is a mini review of some of the new products I’ve been trying out.

Youth To The People | Kale + Green Tea Spinach Vitamins Cleanser

If you’re not new to this blog, then you know my holy grail in this department is the Cerave SA Smoothing cleanser, as it’s just fantastic on my skin. However, I wanted to calm down a little on daily exfoliation, as too much can cause more harm then good.

This super food cleanser is all about natural ingredients, using cold-pressed antioxidants and supports the skins natural PH balance. It does a brilliant job of leaving my skin fresh and clean, without drying or stripping my face. It actually quite enjoyable to massage in, and it takes almost no effort to wash it off. I can’t say I’ve noticed a reduction in blemishes or pores with this alone, but it definitely works to boost the other products following. I’ve been using it every morning since I bought it and I’ve been loving the results.

Skin Type: Normal, Dry, Combination and, Oily.

Skin Concerns: Pores, Dullness and, Blemishes.

Elemis | Soothing Apricot Toner

Sometimes, my skin can get a little irritated or dry and, I wanted something that would help soothe it or eliminate redness. This apricot toner not only doubles as both a toner and a hydrating mist, but it’s incredibly refreshing, sit’s well over makeup and smells amazing. I use this frequently after any exfoliant now, or sometimes in the middle of the day when I just feel my face could use a little refreshment. It’s also been a handy trick for days where I’m letting my skin breathe. I just use the Elemis Superfood AHA Glow Cleansing Butter and this, then go about my day.

Skin Type: Suitable for all but, ideal for Sensitive, Acne-Prone.

Skin Concerns: Dryness, Breakouts, Dehydration and, Sensitivity.

Scientia | Pure Clarity PHA Skin Tonic

This stuff is a skin miracle in a very aesthetic bottle. The PHA Skin Tonic is for restoring balance and refining your complexion, especially if you suffer from breakouts and congested pores. It contains Niacinamide – which is a holy grail ingredient for us gals and guys with large pores - and my skin looks smooth and radiant once my routine is finished. I’ve found it pairs incredibly well Paula’s Choice 2% BHA, if you’re really looking to shrink the appearance of pores. It’s seen quite a bit of love and yet, I’ve hardly made a dent. A little, goes a long way and I’m definitely keeping this is my morning rotation. Infact, I like it so much, I’ve already been eyeing up other products by the brand.

Skin Type: Suitable for all skin types.

Skin Concerns: Breakouts, Congestion, Texture.

Eucerin | Anti-Pigment Dual Serum

The hyperpigmentation left over from old breakouts, has become the main focus of both my daily routines, followed by hydration and anti-aging. With this in mind, I wanted to try a serum that really shined in this area and the Eucerin Dual Serum kept popping up during my search, so I gave it a go.

Unfortunately for me, this isn’t it. Having used it routinely for the last three months, I haven’t seen any real improvement in my uneven tone, hyperpigmentation or blemishes. Though these things always take time and consistency, the serum itself claims results in just two weeks and I have been rigorous in my use of it. The product is almost gone so I will finish it, but it’s not a repurchase for me. It’s a shame, as I have other Eucerin products I love, just not this one.

Skin Type: Suitable for all skin types.

Skin Concerns: Dark Spots, Uneven Tone, Dullness and, Prevention.

Glossier | Universal Pro-Retinol

I’ve been slowly introducing Retinol into my routine for a while now, as I begin to incorporate anti-aging products. Retinol is a prized form of Vitamin A, known to help drastically improve the look of texture, wrinkles and fine lines. However, it does have its downsides, which can include dryness and irritation.

I was therefore pleasantly surprised at how creamy and rich Glossier’s Retinol offering was, and not drying at all, atleast for me. Though, I feel this has something to do with the low percentage of Retinol it does contain, at only 0.5%. That being said, my skin looks considerably brighter and youthful, with a noticeable improvement of my overall tone since it’s introduction into my routine. I’ve also seen a significant improvement in my pores, which was an unexpected side benefit, though one I’m quite happy about, as you can imagine. I’ve been using this only at night and, following it up with a heavy moisturiser. The overall results have been amazing. Definitely give this girl a shot if you are looking for a low percentage Retinol.

Skin Type: Suitable for all skin types.

Skin Concerns: Fine Lines, Blemishes, Pores, Dark Spots, Uneven Tone and, Texture.
