Romanticising Your Night-Time Routine (Realistically)

Updated: Oct 20, 2023

So many of us are always on the go, always trying to get as much done as possible within the day, that we let our self-care, both physically and mentally fall to the wayside. The reason for this, is the commonly shared belief that, we just simply don’t have the time to put ourselves at the centre of our own lives, because everything else is more of a priority. Yet, that simply is not true. If we can make time for everything else, then we should definitely be making time for ourselves. Self-care is and should always be an absolute priority, never being completely discarded or forgotten. Of course, there are times when things simply don’t work out, or we just really don’t have the time, but that should never be an everyday case. Making time for yourself, is a priority.

So, with that in mind, when your nightly routine begins to feel a little stagnant and robotic, it’s time to spice things up so you can start enjoying them again and a great way to do that, is to add romantic elements that make you excited to sleep and, have you feeling amazing when you wake up.

There’s a misconception that to romanticize aspects of your life, it has to be aesthetically pleasing, you have to be well off, or that it just isn’t realistic on a day-to-day basis. However, that simply isn’t true. What if I said romanticising your night routine can be done with a few realistic, easy steps?

Winding down

Nights should be about winding down, reflecting on your day and, relaxing before heading to bed. So, find some time to settle down and get comfortable in a space that reflects your personality, your mood and the things you enjoy.

Once you are comfortable, you can start enjoying a hobby, or perhaps a good book, a recent podcast, catch up on a show; whatever takes your fancy. Make sure to stay hydrated, to have a good dinner and have gotten any chores or similar things done before hand, so you can truly dedicate this time to yourself, without having to worry.

Relaxing Bath

Are you someone who opts for a quick shower at night? Try switching it up for a romantic bath, to help melt away that stress and tension. Add in some bath bombs, bath oil or bubble bath, light a few candles, bring in a good book or listen to music or a podcast and just, relax. It’s always a good idea to invest time into your hygiene, and bathing can make it feel less like a chore and more like a treat.

Body Care

Pamper your skin before you head to bed! Moisturisers, lotions, body oils, perhaps a foot mask, the choice is yours. Making sure you go to bed feeling refreshed and glam, will have you feeling like a million bucks when you wake up in the morning. Or perhaps you want to keep it simpler or don’t have the energy for it? How about some new pyjamas? Sleeping in silk can make for a dreamy night.

Prep To-Do List

Anything that can be done at night, therefore making the morning easier should be on the top of the list. So, get things organised before hitting that pillow! Set out your clothes for the morning, prep your lunch, write your to-do list, etc. Taking care of all the small things, instead of panicking about them in the morning, will take that burden off you for the night, making it more enjoyable.

Fresh Air

A recent purchase of mine that has been an absolute game changer is an air humidifier. These little treasures add moisture to the air to combat dryness, which can cause irritation to the body. They are also very effective at alleviating dry skin, helping with allergies or even migraines. Especially during these warmer months, when the air inside can feel incredibly stuffy and hot, investing in a humidifier and leaving it on for a few hours when you return home, can make your space feel refreshed.

Smelling Good

Make every evening a romantic one, with a good smelling home. Whether you use candles, plug ins or even wax melts, have one going each night and swap out the scent whenever it grows dull. Having a good smelling home, especially when you’re trying to wind down for the night feels absolutely lovely, after all, no one want to deal with unwanted or nasty smells!

Clean Bedding

One way to set you up for a bad night, is getting into a dirty bed. Especially during these warmer months, keeping your bedding fresh is essential to both your hygiene, but also your state of mind. So, whenever your bedding starts to feel a little gross, toss it in the wash and or swap it out. This is also a great time to find some new laundry detergent that will have your bedding and clothing smelling good throughout the week.

Catching some Zzz’s

Have trouble sleeping at night? Try a heated blanket, a white noise maker or CBD Oil. Whatever your reasons for not being able to sleep, it can really make for an awful night, when you spend your hours twisting and turning, only to wake up feeing groggy and unrested.

Heated blankets are good if you suffer from anxiety, autism, ADHD or just overall restlessness. A white noise maker can work well if you are someone who finds they can’t stop thinking, or needs something to focus on or tune out their own thoughts. CBD Oil comes in handy if you are someone who suffers from pain or unease, helping to relax or take the edge off. There are hundreds of great options on the market, and everyone should be allowed to have a good night’s rest.

I hope some of these will help you focus on your self-care and night routines again, and you get a great night’s rest!
