Six Must Have Lotions & Body Butters For Dry Winter Skin

Updated: Oct 20, 2023

Winter is coming, and it’ll bring dry skin with it if it hits you unprepared. If you’ve been worrying about what to use to keep your skin looking healthy and hydrated during the next few months, here’s my list of six moisturisers I absolutely swear by during the cold seasons.

Jergens | Cherry Almond Moisturiser

I’ve talked about this lotion quite a bit on this blog, yet I’m here talking about it again because it’s just so good. It’s hydrating, lightweight and smells fantastic. What I love about this lotion is that even though its lightweight, it’s not watery, so it still works wonderfully in the colder months and, if you are someone who likes to layer, its consistency works well for that too.

L’Occitane | Shea Ultra Rich Body Cream

A company known for its brilliant body care products; this rich cream is no exception. This was love on first application. It’s infused with Shea Butter, which has a host of great benefits including softening and hydrating the skin. It is soft and sinks in beautifully with no greasy residue. Mine is a limited-edition version in the scent Vanilla Bouquet that smells exquisite, especially when paired with a vanilla heavy perfume, however the usual versions smell lovely aswell, without being overpowering. Smells good, feels good, works brilliantly, what could be better?

Garnier | Soothing Hydrating Delicate Oat Lotion

I didn’t have the highest expectations for this particular lotion, but it surprised me. I noticed straight off the bat how quickly is absorbs, which is not something typical of cheaper lotions. It also boasts a comforting and warm oat scent, that remains on the skin for about four hours, which really isn’t bad at all. Though it is hydrating, it doesn’t quite have the same ‘dry skin punch’ some of the other creams on this list have and, for that reason, I wouldn’t recommend it to those with exceedingly dry or flaky skin. However, if you are looking for something cheap and cheerful, that will help you retain moisture whilst smelling good for an affordable price, this is it.

Laura Mercier | Crème Brulee Body Cream

There’s not much I can say about this gorgeous cream that hasn’t been said already. It’s a thick and creamy consistency, that goes on like silk and smells like you just popped into a delicious bakery. It’s formulated to intensely nourish the skin, and contains Vitamins A, E and F as well as Shea Butter which all help in leaving you with soft, supple skin, that’s beautifully scented with not a dry patch in sight. Using this is an absolute treat and what’s better than that on those cold, rainy days? This cream is definitely an investment, and I personally use it sparingly because of that, but if there is any cream I recommend you go and buy from this list, it’s this one.

Kiehl’s | Soy Milk & Honey Whipped Body Butter

My favourite body butter, hands down. I’ve been using this for a little over two years and I always have one on my body care shelf. In my unbiased opinion (I promise,) there is no body butter that delivers like this one. It’s a gorgeous air-whipped formula that leaves you with luxuriously smooth and silky skin, without a greasy or oily feeling. This is another product that feels like an indulgent treat to use, providing you with deeply hydrated skin and a lovely light scent that lasts all day. This is a perfect year-round body butter too, as its rich enough to protect your skin the winter, but lightweight enough to still wear in the summer.

Neutrogena | Visibly Renew Supple Touch Body Lotion

This body lotion is an affordable gem, especially for those with mature, dry skin. It combines intense hydration with collagen-boosting minerals, leaving your skin feeling moisturised, whilst helping to restore the skin's elasticity. It really brings the lustre back to your skin on a cool night and makes it feel plump and healthy. It has a nice smell too, very light but still there. It’s a great option for the cold, with some amazing side benefits. It’s a simple yet effective product, that gets the job done.
